Apple announces its most expensive iPad: 3,024 dollars the new top-of-the-range iPad Pro without accessories

The company has presented the new iPad Pro and iPad 10th generation, which will go on sale next week, and has raised the prices of all the iPads in its catalog

That a manufacturer renews its product line is usually a reason for joy for its consumers, but this is hardly going to be the case for many Apple fans. The company has announced two new tablets, the iPad Pro (2022) and the 10th generation of the iPad , which bring a significant price increase over the previous generation models . This increase does not only affect the new devices but also the iPad Air, launched last March, and the iPad Mini and iPad 9th generation that hit the market in September 2021 and complete the family of tablets currently available in the Apple catalog . Today, buying any iPad is more expensive than yesterday .

The most expensive iPad in history

Apple is not the only hardware company that is raising prices, but it is the one with the most visibility. The 2021 iPad Pro started at 879 dollars for the model with an 11-inch screen and 1,199 for the 12.9-inch one. The model that replaces it starts at 1,049 dollars (11 inches) and 1,449 (12.9″). If we go to the top-of-the-range model of the iPad Pro (12.9″, 2 TB of storage and Wi-Fi + 5G connection), the thing is nothing more and nothing less than 3,024 dollars for the Apple tablet. And that without adding accessories such as the 2nd generation Apple Pencil (149 dollars) or the “magical” Magic Keyboard (429 dollars).A 19% rise makes it the most expensive iPad ever .

In the case of the 10th generation iPad, available from 579 $ , the increase over the launch price of the 9th generation model last year, 379 $ , is 52% . But if we compare with the amount of the latter today, 429 $ , the difference is reduced to 34% . With the launch of the new iPad, the iPad Mini and the iPad Air have also seen their prices increase. The first goes from 679 dollars to 769 in its most basic configuration, 13% more, while the second rises from 549 dollars to 649 ,a 18% .

What’s new with the iPad Pro?

After the scare of the new price table for Apple tablets, what do they bring again? The main novelty is the change of processor that goes from the M1 to the M2 , released in June in the MacBook Air and the 13-inch MacBook Pro. According to Apple, this SoC with an eight-core CPU and a 10-core GPU offers 15% more performance and up to 35% more graphics processing . It has a unified memory width of 100 GB / s and in terms of connectivity, it now supports the Wifi 6E standard , Bluetooth 5.3 and MIMO 2×2.

In addition, it can detect the Apple Pencil 2nd generation at a distance of 12 mm from the screen, a functionality that apps can take advantage of. For example, Scribble automatically expands text fields when it senses the proximity of the electronic pen. Otherwise, it maintains the same specifications as the model it replaces and will go on sale on October 26 , just like the 10th generation iPad.

The 10th generation iPad is a full-fledged renewal

In terms of news, the 10th generation of iPad offers more than the new iPad Pro . Change the design, now more similar to the iPad Air. The screen increases from 10.2 inches to 10.9 and the resolution from 2,160 x 1,620 pixels to 2,360 x 1,640 pixels while maintaining IPS LCD technology. It does so without the device gaining in size or weight thanks to the reduction of frames; in fact, it reduces them very slightly. The SoC goes from the A13 Bionic to the a14 Bionic which can also be found in the iPhone 12 and the 4th generation iPad Air. The rear camera increases its resolution from 7 to 12 MP and records video at 4K/60 images per second, while the front camera increases from 1.2 MP to 12and records at 1080p/60 images per second.

It includes a USB-C port to replace the Lightning, the Touch ID button becomes integrated into the power button and the sides are less rounded and flatter while the webcam changes its location from the top to the right side. In this case, at least, there are a good handful of improvements that make price escalation more digestible .
